We’ve been asked a lot how we are doing during the COVID-19 pandemic – although it hasn’t been easy, we are both of the mindset that you need to go with the flow.
As of this writing we have a monthly site at Brook Mill RV Park in Del Rio Texas – with the option to extend to another month. Of course at any point we realize that the State of TX can close all RV parks or the owners may decide to close and we will simply have to adjust. If that happens we will pack up and head back east to driveway surf with family. Right now, where we are is not a COVID-19 hot zone, so I feel we are safer here.
The Downsides – and there are a few!
- Storage. We don’t have a huge pantry, fridge and freezer to store things. On the bright side we are plant based eaters so the run on milk, eggs and chicken hasn’t affected us! We stocked up on a bunch of dried beans, rice and canned items. Stored them in the Jeep and in the front of the RV behind the seats. Unfortunately we will have to go to the store again if this goes on for much longer.
- Medical. We are in an area where we have zero connections to the medical community. So we don’t know what we don’t know. A bit unnerving if we think about it too much!
- Self-Isolating isn’t perfect. Because we are in a park there are things we need to share such as laundry facilities and getting our mail/packages. We will do our best to carry around our disinfecting wipes
- TP! We didn’t hoard TP – so yea us, but now we can’t find any. RV systems don’t handle any kind of TP, but as of this writing I can’t find marine/RV TP anywhere #TheStrugleIsReal
- People are coming and going. Like many fulltimers we love to travel – the downside is we’ve been all over the place as have many of the people in the park. Chances are someone is a carrier and even with the best precautions, there is no guarantee that our isolation will work.
- Isolating and WORKING in a TINY HOUSE! We are in a Tiffin Wayfarer 2020RW – it’s perfect for us but it is tiny. We aren’t confining ourselves inside – but we also aren’t hanging out with our neighbors. The good news about Del Rio is we are in the midst of a a LOT of nature – so heading out for hikes and bike rides is a God send and I’m sure we will be taking advantage of it a lot!
- I’m in Blizzard Mode. Back in CT when we had to isolate due to weather I went into the kitchen and cooked up a storm and that included banking. I just did that yesterday and if I keep that up for too many shut in days we will both gain a lot of weight. Balancing my need for zen baking with some healthy protein shakes will be the plan going forth!
We will keep you posted!
Be well everyone
Cindy & Dave
